		<abstract>In this work we propose the application of the watershed segmentation method in the automatic detection and classification of mammographic calcifications. Only two simple textbook shape factors, the compactness and the first invariant moment, are used to build a nearest-neighbour classifier. Using mammographic sections of biopsy-proven cases, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.</abstract>
